About my new project 'Arteryficial Intelligence'
On the work developing my new project entitled 'Arteryficial Intelligence', where you could read the statement and view a short video of photos from details of all the completed artworks so far at the link https://mikepetrakis.blogspot.com/2021/08/my-new-work-entitled-arteryficial.html?m=1 , I would like to share some thoughts and tips about the statement, content and purpose of my new work, as well as a short videos from the two of the artworks which included on my new project, before completing their presentation and display.
While artists have been able to find new forms of expression in their art using AI, they’ve had to wrestle with the existential question that follows AI into any profession it’s introduced —
will AI replace artists?
It’s clear that even in the creative field, sophisticated technologies can be used to enhance our capabilities—but crucially they still require human intelligence to define the overarching rules and steer the way.
In its present condition, it’s almost impossible to accurately define and translate “creativity” into a clearly structured set of rules; inspiration is not something that can be easily programmed into a machine at this stage.
Critical points
· Artists express ideas/feelings into physical art.
· Artificial intelligence is a tool, not an entity.
· AI can imitate and reproduce an artist style.
· AI-powered tools help artists be more productive and creative.
· AI is and will remain a tool for the artist, and will not replace the artist.
But even though AI is apt at creating designs and generating video frames, it only does so according to the artists’ instructions. The computer can’t randomly generate a whole sequence of frames or images itself. So the artist has a huge role in image creation, video framing, and post curation of the project.
So can AI create art?
AI can’t threaten an artist’s job at all. Instead, AI features can extend an artist’s individuality and allow them to explore their creativity. But, of course, the artist will always have control over the whole process.
Moreover, it’s undeniable that there are many aspects of art that AI can’t capture without necessary information and instruction. Thus, it has a long way before it can make art by itself and replace human artists.
Creativity is among the most mysterious and impressive achievements of human existence.
So as with art and music and philosophy and literature. If we allow ourselves to slip in this way, to treat machine “creativity” as a substitute for our own, then machines will indeed come to seem incomprehensibly superior to us. But that is because we will have lost track of the fundamental role that creativity plays in being human.
AI don’t create a direction on its own but mirror the way we think and pose problems, they might just amplify the negative aspects of our society.
